Event Description: The Boca Raton Public Library is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month with a concert by the Matthew Nichols Latin Jazz Quartet at the Downtown Library on October 15 at 3:00pm. Nichols will be joined by musicians from Colombia, Venezuela, and the United States to share their unique sound and passion for music with the audience. Matthew Nichols is a critically acclaimed percussionist who teaches and performs in the South Florida music community. He performs with a variety of ensembles with different styles, such as the Florida Grand Opera, the Miami Symphony, Florida Wind Symphony Jazz Orchestra, and other jazz combos in the tri-county area. Before living in Florida, he performed and taught in Richmond, Virginia. “Latin music has had an influence on jazz since it was developed in New Orleans over a century ago. It was instrumental in the use of syncopated rhythms and remains a large component of jazz,” notes Max La Mura, Program Services. “Matthew Nichols and his quartet will provide an afternoon of Latin jazz standards. The set list includes music from Antonio Carlos Jobim, Consuelo Velázquez, Chick Corea and many more. Being a musician myself, I am excited to bring this style of music to our community.” This program is free to the public. Registration is through the calendar at bocalibrary.org.
